It’s Tea Teenie Time! Martinis to escape the heat!

July 24, 2011

It’s so hot and every one is just too grumpy!  Here’s our Grasshopper Green Tea Teenie Recipe.   For the WOW factor – just add some organic MATCHA, it kicks up the green color naturally!

The key is using excellent grades of  Sencha & Matcha Teas

Good quality organic Sencha has both a  lemoney, fresh as well as a  brothy flavor.  Little Green World’s Organic Matcha gives another depth and  level of flavor.  Both teas are frothy and delicious when combined  with alcohol.  Your  Tea Martini will have  striking green presentation without any artificial anything.

Shochu is the perfect compliment

Shochu is a popular Japanese liquor. It has a flavor similiar to a fine Vodka, but it is a bit smoother and sweeter with not as much of a alcohol “bite.” This is the perfect compliment to the fresh, lemony flavor of Sencha.

What you will need

  • 4 oz brewed and cooled organic Sencha tea (For purchase go to  littlegreenworld.com)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Matcha – great taste while adding bright green color to the drink base
  • 2 oz Shochu (or organic RAIN Vodka)
  • ½ oz agave or some local honey
  • Ice
  • Cocktail Shaker (or a glass with a lid)
  • Martini glass

Make that drink!Tea Teenie Time

  • Pack the cocktail shaker with ice
  • Add the Schochu, Sencha, Matcha and sweetner
  • Shake until it becomes frothy
  • Serve in a Martini Glass

Respite from the heat!

To beat the heat and the  dog days of summer chill with our special cocktail.  . When you combine the smooth vodka with the rich, lemony Teas you get a cocktail that is truly magnificent. And to top it off, it looks so good that your friends will line up to drink them!  They may be green with envy…

Do be a TEAZE!

Certified Organic Private-label teas flows onto menus! Chains are capitalizing on novelty factor, high margins

April 15, 2011

A growing number of hotels with  dining chains are turning to Whisk and Spoon when getting Private Label Certified Organic  Teas!

Attractive Private Label Teas

Over the past few months,  Westin Hotel selected Whisk and Spoon for Certified Organic private-label signature White  Tea.  Joining the ranks of upscale spas and hoteliers that have been working with Whisk and Spoon, the Westin now joins a number of high-end independents and resturants that have Whisk and Spoon creating  signature certified organic teas.

The emerging trend toward showcasing proprietary-label teas offers a number of advantages for chain operators, experts say, not the least of which is the ability to enjoy a higher profit margin on sales by the cup sales.

Showcasing Certified Organic private-label Teas enables companies to further differentiate their brands from the competition, they add.

“A lot of hotels have created private-label Teas,” said Angie Ecklels, a marketing manager who works with Whisk and Spoon private label tea  innovation team. “Restaurants seem to be moving this way too.  We are getting a lot of serious inquiries for our individually single cup Tear & Pour Teas™ that work with both infusers and presses.  Also the  organic pyramid tea bags with custom labeling remain popular.”

“It’s a unique, organic and kosher – a  signature certified organic tea  that’s  special  to your guests,” Eckels said. “Whisk and Spoon developed a signature tea for the Weston; and offers a simple, yet comprehensive program industry wide. Our Certified Organic PL Tea program is geared towards  hotels, spas, resturants  who are branding their companies  with an organic tea and realizing profitable center.  Many conventions centers are also utilizing our services for specialty events.

Eckels wanted a program that can give clients  a unique offering – Whisk and Spoon responded to the need.  Once a chain gets our program they realize the potential an move to our more sophisticated products offered by Whisk and Spoon.  Our latest project involves working with the a chain spas located in Southern USA – we are creating a new customized line of  Signature Spa Teas specifically for this chain.

“Working with such diverse clients like stadiums,Trade Shows,  hotels, small business to wedding planners”, Angie stated, “Whisk and Spoon  makes  a lot of premium products for private label.”  “It’s such a bonus to be manufacturing their organic premium introductory tea line in the Tri-State Area – which  makes going local easy!

Not a dry eye in the house on Saturday Nite  January 15,2011

Liz and Jay Scott put on another fantastic event for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) which was the continued vision  of the founder and creator, Alexandra “Alex” Scott.  Reading heartfelt letters from families who benefit from funds raised by ALSF, moved every one attending the silent auction .    With over 100 volunteers, and participation from major corporations this evening  fundraiser does it right for a great start to the New Year and the  vision “a cure for all children with cancer”

The most important message was that it all started with a lemonade stand and a vision.  That little stand and little girl’s vision  turned into over $1,000,000.  This organization continues today through her parents, friends, volunteers, community involvement and a bunch of little kids raising a lot of awareness.  Alex would have been 15 on January 18, 2011.

My favorite drink to the start of  the holiday Season

Chai Tea with a bit of MOXI

Why not try and make chai from scratch? You can vary the following according to taste. I love the stuff as an alternative. When I was in  India almost every street corner has a “chai” stall.   AEG 15CT BLK WS7

My Whisk and SPOON Recipe

  • 1/3 water
  • 2/3 milk (soy and rice work great too)
  • 1 Whisk and Spoon Pyramid tea bag  for each cup measured
  • freshly chopped ginger & a few cardamom pods
  • a little piece clove (optional)
  • organic sugar (organic palm or agave are our fav’s) to make it sweet to your taste

Throw it all into a saucepan cold EXCEPT TEA BAGS and bring slowly to a boil. When boiling turn off  the heat.  Swirl it around until it reaches the desired strength and the spices provide a kick. Strain it into small glasses.

Alcohol optional

October, usually it’s Food & Recipes: Here’s 3 Great reasons to drink tea.

September 23, 2010

October, usually we post a new recipe with pork, but not this year.  Right now Whisk and Spoon is  getting ready for the  October Pink’d campaign, new fundraiser ideas and the Major League Baseball Playoffs.  We know it’s football season, however, here we are and the Phil’s are right back on top of the division… Wahoo!  Got Pink'd

Just glad not to be headed out to Vegas next month, because Whisk and Spoon has a couple of weddings to attend in October – which are always a lot more fun than trade shows.  We would love to receive your comments on the Pink’d logo – tell us your thought by leaving us a comment to post.  Save the date! October is the month for  purchasing more tea – this year two charities benefit from our sales.

3 great reasons to drink tea

Tea is Effective in Lowering BAD cholesterol.

Journal of Nutrition found that consuming 30 oz. of black tea daily – the fluid equivalent of 2.5 cans of soda – reduced Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL, or “bad”) cholesterol levels by more than 10 percent in mildly hypercholesterolemic adult study participants.

Tea is Heart Healthy

Studies published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association &  American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN) study participants who drank 3-4 cups of tea per found that incidence of myocardial infarction or heart attack decreased by 43 percent AND it was also found that tea significantly lower risk of death following a heart attack – a decrease of up to 44 percent.

Tea is good for you even if you are still smoking – Cough!

Tea was helpful in some protection of heavy smokers.   The clinical intervention study found that heavy smokers who consumed four servings per day of green tea had 31%  lower levels of 8-OHdG (a biomarker for oxidative damage to DNA) in white blood cells. Oxidative damage to DNA is one factor which increases cancer risk and the researchers suggest that a significant reduction of DNA damage found with green tea drinking may help reduce cancer risk in smokers.

A multitude of research studies point to drinking tea as a way to promote health.  Tea is also being supported by more and more doctors as it can potentially reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease and certain types of cancer.

Tea is an ideal beverage — delicious, refreshing, soothing and healthful.  A lot of people ask why Whisk and Spoon is so crazy about organic teas – our answer is always the same – unlike fruits and veggies – tea doesn’t get washed.

Can’t wait for your feedback on the Pink’d logo.

Wearing of the Green – a bit of Irish Folk Lore

March 1, 2010

What are fairies – little whispers of the future.

A bit of folklore or not?

In Ireland two distinct fairy types exist—the trooping fairies and the solitary fairies. You will find the trooping fairies in merry bans about the hawthorn tree or at feasts in gilded fairy palaces. They delight in company, while the solitary fairies avoid large gatherings, preferring alone and separate from one another.

The trooping faeries are the major and presiding residents of fairyland; but the solitary ones (leprechauns, selkies, banshees, merrows, etc…) have greater interest in mortal affairs and therefore are generally more familiar to us. Their favorite foods are pea soup, ham and cabbage, with  bit of stout and some lovely scones or biscuits…

Fairies exist all over the world. In Ireland they are the ’sidhe’ (pronounced shee), a name they have retained from the ancient days.  Look under bushes and circles of stones that crop up all over Ireland—called fairy raths and you will find trooping faeries. The fairy raths crop up in pastures all over Ireland, and the farmers never plow them up for fear of disturbing the fairies that live there and bringing down some bad luck upon themselves.

If you want your children to be brilliant, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be geniuses, read them more fairy tales. ~Albert Einstein

CROCKTOBER Fest! Tailgates, Fundraiser & Fall Fun…. Go Phillies!

October 11, 2009

It’s Crocktober!

We make our signature dish with fresh garlic!

Garlic Swags - Get some today!

Whisk and Spoon Bourbon Pulled Pork

Time to pull out the crock pot.  This Whisk and Spoon signature dish uses  trimmed boneless pork shoulder. It cooks long and slow in your crockpot with our homemade Kentucky Bourbon BBQ sauce until it is tender and falling apart.  Our secret ? Use plenty of fresh garlic gloves kept whole…

Ingredients

Trim up 1.5 pounds of pork shoulder and cut up in large pieces (3 or 4) and place in a large freezer storage bag.

Add to bag:

  • 2 cups ketchup
  • ¼ cup tomato paste
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoon liquid smoke
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 to 4 drops of hot pepper sauce
  • 1 garlic bulb (break apart the glove & keep whole)
  • 1 small onion – chopped fine
  • 1/2 cup bourbon (drinkable)

Squish it all together and lay flat in your freeze until game day.  Thaw in fridge and empty bag of pork and BBQ sauce in crock-pot.  Cover and cook for 6-8 hours on low or 4 – 5 hours on high.  Remove pork from crock-pot and place in dish.  Take two forks and pull apart pork to shred.  Add as much BBQ sauce as you wish.  Serve with slaw and cornbread.
